The Cooperative Advertising (Co-op) program is a public-private partnership between the state and local tourism businesses, allowing them to leverage the in-house design, shared purchasing power and established brand identity to secure advertising they would not otherwise be able to access. Ranging from traditional print placements and social media content to experiential campaigns and large scale take-overs, the program has invested over $40M in tourism advertising.
Leveraging the power of Bannernow, an automation tool for designing at scale, our in-house digital designs combine modern animation and stunning photography that are proven to increase awareness and drive conversions. This banner set for West Virginia State Parks highlighted fall adventures across the state parks system, including Canaan Valley and Hawks Nest.

Pulling in key Almost Heaven elements, such as illustrative iconography and our brand marks, we designed print placements that ran in a wide variety of major publications. Adding in key headlines in a humanistic type with organic edge details, we threaded in a connection to the West Virginia logo. This placement for ACE Adventure Resort showcasing dynamic summer fun ran in a print edition of Southern Living.

Spanning from billboard placements to more smaller-scale urban touchpoints, our digital out-of-home advertising delivered high-impact story-telling that could be digested in just a moment. In these featured awareness placements, we told the story of what a day on the Hatfield-McCoy Trails could look like, including eye-catching high adventure as well as intimate waterfall moments.

SBus and car wraps establish our dynamic presence in major cities, including Charlotte, Washington D.C. and Pittsburgh during both major events as well as general awareness. Showcasing winter adventures, these placements presented Winterplace Ski Resort as a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of city life in Charlotte, with vast snowy landscapes and serene mountain views. Pulling in the flourishes of the West Virginia tourism logo, I utilized special glyphs of the featured typeface to mirror our larger brand advertising

October 2025 - March 2026
In response to consumer insights linking sports affiliations to potential West Virginia visitors, we established a variety of sports partnerships for our tourism businesses. The Pittsburgh Pirates MLB franchise offered the perfect stage to drive awareness and conversions for the Northern Panhandle of the state. This sponsorship included a wide variety of placements, including not only custom stadium signage but also in-game entertainment such as a Country Roads sing-along during home games

March 2025 - September 2025
One of the newest additions to the co-op program has been large scale takeovers in major transit stations. Our partners in the Eastern Panhandle wanted a splashy way to reach their core audience in Washington D.C. and we delivered a custom partnership in the capitol city to showcase that this great destination is just an hour away. Reaching busy commuters at the Farragut and Metro Center stations, I presented the Eastern Panhandle as an enticing getaway, offering luxury retreats, crowd-free landscapes, an opportunity to unplug and connect with what matters most. Over the course of both summer and fall campaigns, we showcased a holistic view of the destination as it evolves with the seasons, driving over 3.7M impressions.
